How To Rest From Worry

Our world is experiencing major change right now. People are experiencing a smorgasbord of emotions topped with a lot of uncertainty about the future. However, there is hope, a “blessed hope” in Jesus Christ. (Ref. Titus 2:13). God is calling for us to rest in him. You may think, “What? “How can you think about rest at a time like this?” Well, think about it like this, worrying doesn’t get you very far. Worrying usually causes physical manifestations of discomfort (such as headaches and etc.) and emotional  incontinence that makes you feel guilty. Most of the time at the end of  all the worrying nothing has changed. So, you may be thinking, “You’re telling me if I can’t fix or change the situation, I shouldn’t use my free right of worrying to worry about my situation ?” My friend that is absolutely what I’m saying.  Worrying is a choice, just like choosing to rest is a choice. You can only be bound by the untruthful things you choose to believe. The Bible puts it this way, “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭ASV‬‬). What is the truth? “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.”(John‬ ‭14:6‬ ‭ASV‬‬) Jesus is the truth and he loves you very much. Don’t allow false doctrines to deceive you, the Bible never promised that you would never have trials. I admonish you to read the Bible to seek the truth, comfort, and rest. Let’s look at the following versus and I pray that they bring comfort to your heart:

  • Jesus said: “These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
    ‭‭(John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭ASV‬‬)
  • “Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭13:5‬ ‭ASV‬‬)
  • Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”(Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭ASV‬)

Now, I would like you to try an exercise, an exercise to build your faith to be exact. Pause and listen, do you hear any birds chirping? If you’re outside do you see any birds flying around? You may be thinking, “What does this have to do with anything?” Well, I’m glad you asked, I would like to leave you with the following passage of scripture to meditate upon :“Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value than they?” (Matthew‬ ‭6:25-26‬ ‭ASV‬‬)
